From the February 2012 issue of FASHION Magazine, a 16-page spread with Bosnian/Australian "It" model Andrej Pejic, including endearing commentary from the man himself. I, like so many others, am so fascinated by Pejic; my eyes see a woman, so I must consciously convince my brain that physically, anatomically, Pejic is a man. The interview by our features editor, Rani Sheen, is totally revealing (like, exposing how we categorize each other based on physical attributes), and yet solves only a few of my questions.

It's so exciting that FASHION booked Andrej for a cover so early in the race-- and even our own beloved Albertan designer, Sid Neigum, had Pejic walk his Spring 2012 show at LG Fashion Week last October (although, I didn't realize it at a glance). I can't wait to see what comes next!

I forgot to share with you my segment on CityTV's Breakfast Televsion Calgary for FASHION, where I was dishing on the best in winter coat fashion for 4 whole minutes (which seemed like a lifetime!)!

Yes, I was totally and completely shaking in my boots, and am relieved it's over, but am, surprisingly, looking forward to the next time!

Have you heard about supermodel Coco Rocha's no-photoshop campaign with Jacob? If you've been doing any Christmas shopping in the mall, I'm sure you've seen these images hanging in the Jacob shop windows. In an effort to help restore a little bit of reality to the over-processed, digital advertising world we live in, our favourite Canadian girl, Coco, has signed on to be a part of the innovative "no-touch-up" campaign (which is, in fact, also Canadian). Krystle Dos Santos - "Remember" from Brett Rostrup

Remember when I told you all about the music video I was producing in Vancouver for the ultra-talented, local electro-soul singer, Krystle Dos Santos? And how I wanted it to be a big, fashion-focused hoo-rah with local designers and artists? Well, it's finally here! And I am so, so excited! The revamped cover of “Remember” from Fame Fatale is a modern-soul spin on a ‘60s girl group classic.

We collaborated with Jessica Halabi who sent the gorgeous, hand-painted white gown you see Krystle wearing in the old heritage building (can I please have some French doors in my apartment?), and pulled clothing from high-end Vancouver design house, Obakki, for several pieces, including the beautiful peach, custom watermark print dress Krystle wears on the beach.

Styled by the lovely Nicole from Le Mode du Jour, there's also some jewellery by Lisbeth (the gold Constance necklace) and Australian designer Samantha Wills (look out for the turquoise, tear-drop ring). Throw in a pile of Aldo beads in there and you've got some over-the-top glamour. Would love to know your thoughts and hope you'll share this whimsical video with your friends. xx

Oh Em Gee. I've got some more homegrown talent for you.

This gorgeous, whimsical video for Toronto-based Fortnight Lingerie was shot and edited by the ultra-talented Brett Rostrup (who I worked with on the Krystle Dos Santos "Remember" music video-- out at the beginning of October. I swear I cannot SIT STILL until you see it!).

I just adore the light flares, the beautiful lingerie (there's significant coverage, considering that it's lingerie, and yet it's still so sexy) and this song, "She Doesn't Love Me Anymore", by Edmonton artist J. Eygenraam (of theruffian art collective and of local band dreamface).

I just lurve being able to spread the word about talented local photographers, and this one you've heard of before. Shot by Brianna Hughes, my favourite element in this particular Hughes series is the polished styling against the gritty backdrop-- boarded up windows, broken brick, and a rusted car. The darks are dark and the whites, crisp and clean. The lighting takes my breath away.

I'm not sure if I've ever shared a photo of myself with you on Caroline in the City, but I thought that this might be an appropriate occasion (oh, and did I tell you that I cut and bleached my hair?)! I was included in a round-up of Edmonton's top bloggers for a classic, black and white photo shoot with Aaron Pedersen of 3Ten Photography. I must say that, beyond his beautiful fashion photography, Aaron has a knack for shooting portraits (don't you remember Parlour's Créme de la Créme?).

In other news, I was also asked to be a judge for the W.O.W. (Windows On Whyte) window display competition on one of Edmonton's hottest shopping strips, Whyte Avenue. I found this gorgeous image (which I love so much, I've made it the profile picture on my Caroline in the City Facebook page) via City and Dale, a wonderful blog/website run by Kendall Barber, that keeps all Edmontonians totally up-to-date with city happenings. The perfect balance of worldy fashion, darling mood boards, and local fare (restaurants, festivals, events, and everything in between), I only hope that everyone out there has their own online destination that gifts them the city scoop on a regular basis.

This weekend, I'm actually excited to have no major events planned, but lots of time to work from my apartment (did I tell you how happy I am in my beautiful, new place? Edmonton, I'm so delighted to be back home!) and look out at the city landscape.

Perhaps I'll have some champagne on the balcony, too, just for fun...

Carnival Ride...

... I just LOVE it when I come across an editorial shot locally, here in Edmonton, that I am inspired by and can't wait to share on Caroline in the City. This spread was shot at Capital Ex, Edmonton's annual, weeklong, summer carnival.

Brilliant local photog Harvey Miedreich Capital-ized (if you will), and took to the streets with the drop-dead-gorgeous Hannah Donker from Mode Models and blogger/stylist Janis Galloway from Dress Me Dearly (who did an unreal job-- love the pastel Doc Martens). The result is a colourful, crazy, haze-of-a-carnival backdrop, which is an Edmonton summer in its most natural state. Talk about living in the moment. I mean, do you see that shot with the fireworks? The timing! That, my friends, is pure talent.

If you're interested in some more local-- click here to read my first article for FASHION Magazine (which I had mere hours to write), which tackles the Fluid Hair Fiasco (an ad released by a local salon which is being slaughtered online amidst accusations of promoting domestic violence). It's a touchy subject and there are always two sides to every story. You decide: is it art? Or is it advertising?

(In the case of this Miedreich spread, it is most definitely, 100% ART.)

It's no secret that I'm a fan of Anne Hathaway (can't wait to see her in One Day and as Catwoman in the next Batman flick!), so I had no fear of posting this amazing, haunting, goose bump-inducing spread for the latest issue of Interview. She looks like a painting, a sculpture, a ghost. I love how she can appear so tormented and forgotten here (perhaps channeling her Batman role), and then so fresh, sprightly and youthful here. This year's union between Kate Moss and Jamie Hince may have surpassed in fairytale charm even the royal wedding of another Kate M. and her prince. And having Mario Testino as wedding photographer might just tilt the scale.

Appearing on the cover of the September 2011 issue of Vogue, the biggest fashion mag of the year, Kate the Great looks stunning in a burgundy gown with an onslaught of to-die-for book photos battling for the crown: "The Most Romantic Wedding of the Year".

This is the perfect 2011 Gatsby garden wedding. On English soil, of course! I am in awe.

I have the most exciting news to share with you!

I have been hired as the new Alberta Reporter for FASHION Magazine, the biggest fashion publication in Canada!

It is a dream come true. I remember vividly, at 12 years old, flipping through YM or Seventeen, when it dawned on me that someone had to actually, physically, put magazines together; someone had to write those articles, shoot those photographs, and pick out all those beautiful clothes. And I wondered, how on earth could one get there, how on earth could I get there? And now... I'm sort of, kind of, actually there!

I couldn't think of a better post today than to share a few outtakes from "The Great Dictator", an editorial spread featuring Canadian model Irina Lazareanu that appeared in the April 2011 Behind-the-Scenes issue of FASHION. Irina portrays the life of a fashion magazine editor with guest appearances by FashionTV's Jeanne Baker.

As Alberta Reporter, I'll be covering the best in local designer talent from Edmonton to Calgary, starting with FASHION's winter issue (too soon to be talking about winter?), and, of course, will share those FASHION articles here on Caroline in the City as well.

I'm so thankful that I live in a world where new-wave publishing has opened up so many doors and has made this big world seem small and tangible. Where on earth would we be without it?

With a relaxing, fun-filled August long weekend now over, doesn't it feel like we should all be on holidays for the rest of the summer? I'm picturing a lovely beach home, or a cottage by the lake, sun tanning, enjoying picnics on the grass, fresh, icy cocktails at five o'clock, and campfires at night. Of course, we'll be dressed in flowing whites. After all, there's only one month left for your summer fling.
